Jar Fittonia

Pikaplant Jar is a living houseplant that you never need to water. The plants are sealed airtight inside an upside-down Mason jar. All of the water inside a Jar's ecosphere remains inside, and the plants continuously recycle the water and air that they have. All you have to do is give your self-sustaining plants a nice place to live, and enjoy the view.

Pikaplant Jar is our interpretation of a bottle garden or closed terrarium. We select each seedling by hand, and before we enclose the plants in a Jar we give them the resources they need to create a well-balanced ecosystem.

The lifespan of individual plants will vary, but we offer a 3-month guarantee on every Jar ecosphere. The original Pikaplant Jar prototypes have been flourishing happily for over 60 months without opening.

Fittonia albivenis is indigenous to the tropical rainforests of Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru. Among communities of the Amazon basin, Fittonia is infused in tea to treat headaches and toothaches. It is also a traditional ingredient in hallucinogenic ayahuasca for spiritual ceremonies, though we recommend you stick to admiring its striking network of contrasting veins - hence the name: albivenis meaning “white-veined”.

Our cultivars were bred by Schoenmakers in the Netherlands, and they are grown according to the MPS-A and MPS-GAP standards for sustainable horticulture.
